This web site was originally written in 1996, but has undergone numerous changes subsequent to this – hence this colophon. The current version of the CyberThinc website was developed in 2012 and uses the WordPress Content Management System. This replaces a previous version written in some somewhat lean XHTML using Cascading Style Sheets & Server Side Includes. We use the Responsive WordPress theme, because coming from a background of C and assembly programming originally, we do value speed of loading for a website, and the Responsive theme met that goal very well.
Testing
As described on the CyberThinc Web Development webpage, CyberThinc test our webpages thoroughly & across a range of web browsers & operating systems. For the current website we have tested using the following Operating Systems:
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Apple Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8
- Apple iOS 6
- Google Android 4
- Ubuntu Linux 12.04 and 12.10
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Apple Safari
- Opera
- Konqueror
We used to test on a wider range of operating systems and browsers, but it followed the law of diminishing returns, in the sense of fewer other web browsers and operating systems showing up in the analytics, so we settled on a core set of test operating systems and web browsers.
Graphics
Any graphics we have created on the website were mainly created using the open source GIMP bitmap graphics software and Inkscape vector graphics software running on Apple Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux platforms. Some of the graphics are screengrabs from specialised software such as computational / mathematical modelling software. In all cases, file sizes were reduced as far as possible, to reduce download time.
We know the pages are not the prettiest web pages on Earth, but we are strong believers that what visitors are interested in is content. In this instance, we hope the technical content in our information section is of use.
